Bike Month 2026 Draws Record Participation Across Orange County

Orange County residents showed strong enthusiasm for active transportation during Bike Month.

More than 4,500 people took OCTA's Bike Month Pledge, exceeding the agency's goal and demonstrating a growing interest in biking for commuting, recreation, and everyday trips. Participation was also high at OCTA's annual Bike Rally, where more than 130 cyclists joined a 4-mile group ride from the Orange Metrolink Station to OCTA headquarters, the largest turnout for the event in recent years.

The Bike Rally brought together riders of all ages and experience levels to celebrate Bike Month while highlighting the ease and accessibility of biking throughout Orange County. The route traveled through Orange and a portion of Santa Ana, showcasing local connections that support active transportation.

"Events like this are about more than just a ride, they're about promoting safer streets, healthier lifestyles, and more transportation choices," said OCTA CEO Darrell E. Johnson, who participated in the ride alongside OCTA Directors William Go and Mark Tettemer. OCTA Directors Tam T. Nguyen and Kathy Tavoularis joined participants at the finish line celebration.

While Bike Month has officially concluded, OCTA continues to encourage residents to make biking part of their year-round transportation routine. OCTA remains committed to expanding safe and convenient biking options through protected bike lanes, regional trail connections, and projects that improve access between neighborhoods, employment centers and transit services.

Residents can also continue to participate in OCTA's bicycle safety efforts. OCTA's e-bike safety video offers important tips for riding responsibly and safely. Those who watch the video can enter a drawing for a chance to win a $100 gift card through July 15, 2026.
