Nearly 75 bicyclists from throughout Orange County turned out for a group bike ride Dec. 13 to the grand opening of ARTIC, the region’s new transportation hub. OCTA organized the ride to encourage active transportation to the new facility, which is adjacent to the Santa Ana River Trail.
Groups departed from two different locations for the approximately 10-mile ride.
The OC Wheelmen left from Huntington Beach, while the BOBies led the pack from Yorba Regional Park. OCTA set up a bike valet at ARTIC so riders could safely leave their wheels and enjoy the grand opening festivities.
ARTIC is designed for use by bicyclists and will include on-site bike racks and covered bike lockers. Combined with convenient access to buses and trains, these bike-friendly accommodations may encourage riders to use their bicycles for the first and last mile of their daily commute.
