Better Together: Public Transportation and You

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we put together just a few of the reasons why partnering with public transportation is such a great idea.

Save money

By switching from driving to taking public transportation, you can save $10,160 a year, according to the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA). Those who ride public transportation instead of driving can save about $847 per month.  Check out APTA’s findings here.

Save money and have fun with friends

Now through April, group rides on OCTA’s new shared microtransit shuttle, OC Flex, are half price on weekends in the two areas served by this pilot project. Get the group together and head to the movies, arcade, or restaurant. Tip: Since there’s no surge pricing, OC Flex is an excellent transportation choice for popular party holidays like Valentine’s Day or St. Patrick’s Day.

Get fit

According to Science Daily, taking mass transit is associated with lower obesity rates. Walking to and from bus stops and train stations adds a little exercise to our daily routines.

Enjoy your family

Imagine a fun trip where you could take your eyes off the road and concentrate on what your kids are sharing with you. That’s one of the advantages of taking a weekend Metrolink train ride to places like the beaches at San Clemente or the petting zoo at San Juan Capistrano. Only $10 for unlimited rides all day either Saturday or Sunday. Kids age 5 and under ride free with paying adult.

Commute better to Irvine

Two new iShuttle bus routes from Metrolink stations (one from Irvine, the other from Tustin) are making it easier and less stressful to get to and from work in Irvine. A great solution for commuters and area employers.
