91 Express Lanes Eastbound to be Part of Corona Closure Feb. 19-22

Thinking of driving in, near, or through Corona this weekend? Steer clear of the 91 and consider alternate ways to get where you want to go.

As part of the Riverside County Transportation Commission's 91 Project that will bring improved transportation to Riverside County, the 91 Express Lanes eastbound will be closed at State Route 55 (SR-55).  In addition, there will be a full closure of State Route 91 east and westbound lakes between State Route 71 (SR-71) and Interstate 15 (I-15) beginning Friday, Feb. 19 at 9 p.m. until Monday, Feb. 22 at 4 a.m.

Motorists traveling on the SR-91, SR-71 or I-15 near the project area during the closure period can expect delays of three to four hours.

The 55-hour closure will allow crews to perform three major construction activities:

  • Demolish the west side of the Maple Street Bridge over the SR-91
  • Install support beams for the new westbound Maple Street flyover ramp bridge
  • Pave the new eastbound SR-91 alignment near I-15

If you must drive, use state routes 57 and 60 and Interstate 10. View the detour map here.

Consider hopping on a bus or train instead. The Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) and Metrolink have announced alternative routes, schedules, and fares to help residents get around the closure between state routes 71 and 15 in Corona.

The RTA will reroute buses along CommuterLink Express Route 216 to take passengers along state routes 57, the 60 and onto Riverside streets. The Corona stop has been canceled.

Metrolink plans to double its round-trip train routes from Feb. 20 to 21 to help connect the Inland area with coastal destinations. Metrolink normally runs two weekend round-trips on both the Inland Empire-Orange County Line and the 91 Line.

To persuade people to travel by train, Metrolink also will offer a two-for-one promotion that weekend, letting each ticket holder bring one guest for free.

Thank you for your patience, and please drive safely.
