Working Together to Build a Better 91

The Westbound 91 Freeway Widening Project between State Route 57 and Interstate 5 is now 75 percent complete. Designed to increase capacity and provide more efficient transportation, this project will deliver a new, four-mile, westbound general-purpose lane along a key commuter and commercial corridor. In addition to adding the new general-purpose lane, the project is widening bridges, reconstructing and realigning on-ramps and off-ramps and providing new drainage systems, overhead signage, and lane and shoulder restriping.

Located between the cities of Anaheim and Fullerton, this stretch of  State Route 91 (SR-91) provides connectivity to residential communities as well as commercial businesses and employers. Currently, crews are performing a variety of work tasks at State College Boulevard, Acacia Avenue, Harbor Boulevard, Euclid Street and Brookhurst Road. In addition to lane paving, crews can be seen working on bridges, performing excavation and grading operations, and installing drainage systems.

Led by OCTA and Caltrans, this project is the third in a series of improvement projects to SR-91 in Orange County. Funded by Measure M, Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, and the state’s Transportation Corridor Improvement Fund, the project’s total estimated cost is $62.9 million. Major construction operations are expected to be completed in late 2015 or early 2016. Since 2010, OCTA has worked together with Caltrans, cities, agencies and local communities to add 22 lane miles to SR-91 as part of its Measure M Transportation Investment Plan and A Better 91 program.
