Why Riders Bus to Work – and Why and How Employers Can Help

There are numerous advantages to taking OC Bus to work. OCTA asked riders to talk about why they chose this transportation method for their daily commute, and here’s what they said:

“When I ride the bus, I bypass the traffic and save on gas. It’s easy and hassle-free.” Dan Haskell, Power Direct

“I don’t own a car because OC Bus takes me where I need to go – work, school, beach, mall.” Deandra Boswell, Walmart

“When I get off at the Metrolink station, the bus is right there and it takes me straight to my job. It’s so convenient.” Lynn, UCI

For employers, too, there are many good reasons to encourage commuting by bus. Parking lots become less congested; people get to work relaxed, on time and on budget; missed days due to car problems become less frequent; and everyone benefits from a cleaner environment.

To help employers help their employees commute by bus, OCTA offers Perk Pass. Perk Pass discounts OC Bus trips for the lowest possible fare per boarding. The Perk Pass Fare is $1.25, a savings of nearly 40 percent when compared to the regular $2 OC Bus fare. With 75 routes and 6,200 stops, OC Bus is convenient for workplaces throughout the county. Employers can choose to subsidize costs or have employees pay for all or part of them. Companies need only 10 bus riders to participate.

Through October 14, businesses interested in the Perk Pass program can sign up for a free lunch and a relaxing trip on cool, clean, comfortable OC Bus while learning how easy it is to ride.
