Why Hassle with Driving or Parking? See LA by Train

Ah, summer. The kids are out of school and your visitors have arrived. Now what?

Fortunately, there’s an easy way to get everyone out of the house and throw in a little history and culture at the same time. World-famous Olvera Street, a vibrant place to shop, eat, and explore, is only steps away from LA’s Union Station. Hop on a Metrolink train going north, and you’re there.

Cross Alameda Street and take a moment at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. The park and monument mark the beginning of Olvera Street, where Los Angeles began in 1781. Then stroll Olvera Street and enjoy the shops, painted stalls, cafes, and festive carts at this thriving Mexican marketplace. Created in 1930, many of the merchants are descended from the original vendors.

Show your Metrolink ticket at Olveritas Village and get 10 percent off—it’s a great spot to pick up souvenirs and fabulous, colorful Mexican dresses, hats, and blouses.

Across the street from the Olvera marketplace in the historic Hellman/Quon building is Gateway to Nature, an intriguing shop that is also the Western National Parks Center in Los Angeles. Bring the kids in to explore new ways to engage with nature, particularly local parks, forests, and public lands. Show your Metrolink ticket and get 10 percent off.

Don’t waste summer sitting in traffic. For only $10 roundtrip on Saturday or Sunday, you can avoid traffic and parking hassles and enjoy the company and your family and friends. And kids 5 and under ride free. Discover more about Metrolink deals and destinations here
