Three openings later this week will please travelers and bring the West County Connectors much closer to completion. The project is designed to create a seamless carpool connection among the Interstate 405 (I-405), State Route 22 (SR-22) and Interstate 605 (I-605) freeways.
Motorists traveling along I-405 and SR-22 in Seal Beach will have an easier commute when the openings begin Nov. 7. The first half of the SR-22 / I-405 carpool connector opens that day at 5 a.m. Carpoolers driving southbound on the I-405 to the eastbound SR-22 will be able to access the new carpool connector. The second achievement on this day will be the completed southbound I-405 on-ramp at Seal Beach Blvd., which creates an extra lane on the mainline to relieve congestion for southbound commuters.
On Nov. 8, the opening of the eastbound SR-22/northbound I-605 connector bridge will provide drivers with an easier commute out of Long Beach.
The remaining connectors are scheduled to open in early December. Nightly freeway closures will continue intermittently as crews work towards the project’s completion. For an updated list of nighttime closures, please visit www.octa.net/wccdetourmap.
