OCTA participated in the “Tour de Cure” on Saturday, Nov. 2 in southern Orange County to raise funds and support a cure for the nearly 26 million Americans who have diabetes.
The cycling team of OCTA employees raised more than $2,600 to help support the American Diabetes Association’s research, information, and advocacy efforts to prevent and find a cure for diabetes as well as improve the lives of people with the condition.
The cycling team included Randy Binz, Jimmy Proctor, Mark Sellinger, Wes Parsel, Jared Lee, and Ryan Maloney. The cyclists trekked on different routes ranging from six to 64 miles.
OCTA outreach staff members Sandy Boyle and Jessica Lopez participated in the event’s vendor village located in Rancho Santa Margarita. They provided bicycle route maps and information about Metrolink, the bus, and ridesharing to approximately 300 cyclists and their families.
Staff also provided information about OCTA’s bikeways planning efforts for the Fifth Supervisorial District, which spans 276 square miles in southern Orange County from Lake Forest to San Clemente. The goal of the program is to develop a regional plan for bikeway projects in the district.
