Members of the Taxpayers Oversight Committee (TOC) took a behind-the-scenes tour last week of construction progress along the I-405 Improvement Project corridor.
TOC members have a special interest in projects such as this that receive funding from OC Go (also known as Measure M), Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements. The committee upholds the integrity of the measure by monitoring the use of OC Go funds and ensuring that all revenue collected from OC Go is spent on voter-approved transportation projects.
The I-405 Improvement Project includes adding one regular lane in each direction between Euclid Street and I-605 and making improvements to walls, freeway entrances, exits and bridges, which is all funded by OC Go. Other funding sources contribute to the construction of the future express lanes.
The tour included several of the 18+ bridges currently being replaced, widened, and improved with new sidewalks and bike lanes. TOC members also learned about OCTA’s Waze mobile application partnership that provides corridor city-approved alternate routes to drivers during closures and detours.
