For the first time in nearly two years, OCTA hosted its Service Animal Training Day. One of the only programs of its kind in the country, the free event pairs service animals and their trainers with experience riding public transportation. The popular program was temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The October 2 event attracted 205 attendees, including groups from across the country such as GO Team, Guide Dogs of the Blind, Guide Dogs of America, Canine Companions and more.
OCTA’s Service Animal Training event began in the mid-90s. During the past 20 years, OCTA has assisted with the training of thousands of service animals while helping those in the community gain increased access to public transportation as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
