On Saturday Oct. 4, OCTA will offer its free annual program to familiarize therapy and service animals with public transportation. Animals that are comfortable with the sounds, movement and layout of a bus increase the independence and confidence of their handlers.
From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., buses will depart every 20 minutes from the Fullerton Park and Ride at 3000 W. Orangethorpe Ave. Designed for service animal training, the special route allows animals and trainers to experience the sights and sounds of downtown Buena Park and Knott’s Berry Farm.
To increase confidence and familiarity, trainers are encouraged to ride multiple times and practice boarding, riding and alighting an OCTA transit bus.
After completing the training day, participants can apply for the OCTA Bus Mobility Training Card. This no-fare photo ID lets holders ride OCTA’s fixed-route system for free while training a therapy or service animal.
