On July 26, Seal Beach residents will have reason to celebrate. That’s when the Seal Beach Blvd. Bridge will open all seven lanes — four lanes northbound and three lanes southbound — for the first time since reconstruction began more than two years ago. It will also include a 9-foot wide bicycle lane in each direction.
As the bridge reopens, crews will begin work to realign and reconstruct portions of the bridge’s on-ramps and off-ramps to Interstate 405 (I-405). That work will require a two-month closure of the northbound I-405 on-ramp at Seal Beach Blvd. beginning the night of July 25. Then in mid-August, there will be a 12-hour nighttime closure on the southbound I-405 off-ramp at Seal Beach Blvd.
The construction is part of the West County Connectors Project (WCC). A joint effort between OCTA and Caltrans, WCC will create a seamless carpool lane connection on the I-405, State Route 22 (SR-22) and Interstate 605 (I-605) freeways.
The Capital Projects Outreach Team has been busy sharing this information with area stakeholders through meetings, social media, email, and freeway messaging.
