San Juan Creek Bike Trail Temporarily Closed as Part of Railroad Bridge Construction

As part of the ongoing construction of a new railroad bridge over San Juan Creek in San Juan Capistrano, the adjacent San Juan Creek Trail is temporarily closed for approximately one month.

A designated detour route to Camino Capistrano, Del Obispo Street and the Trabuco Creek Trail is in place with signage.

The detour is necessary for the safety of trail users and workers as construction crews continue to work in and along the creek to drill and install piles for the new railroad bridge that will go over the trail. The San Juan Creek Trail is expected to be closed for up to one month.

The trail previously closed in mid-July and temporarily re-opened earlier this month.

Through September 15, construction is expected daily Monday through Saturday so crews can finish the necessary pile work ahead of the rainy season.

The work is being completed in partnership with Metrolink as part of a $65.6 million project to replace the existing San Juan Creek bridge, originally constructed in 1917, enhancing safety and reducing maintenance costs.

The project is being funded by OC Go, also known as Measure M, the county’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, and a mix of state and federal funds.
