For visitors to San Juan Capistrano’s Greek Festival on Saturday, Sept. 21, the day’s first celebration may not occur in the seaside mission town but at the Irvine Metrolink Station. That’s where OCTA is holding a free Greek Festival kickoff at 9 a.m. to build excitement about the event and promote the use of Metrolink.
Such promotions are particularly important to San Juan Capistrano, where freeway access has been affected by Caltrans’ I-5/Ortega Highway Interchange Improvement Project. For many reasons, Metrolink is the most convenient way to travel to the festival for riders from as far away as L.A. Union Station and San Bernardino. Earlier this year, San Juan Capistrano officials asked OCTA to help attract visitors while offering an alternative to driving.
OCTA’s Greek Festival kickoff in Irvine will do all that while serving up a healthy dose of fun, too. The first 50 attendees will receive a free round-trip Metrolink ticket, valid on Sept. 21, 2013 only and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Free food, music and prizes are also part of the mix with refreshments from Nothing Bundt Cakes and live music from Headshine. Those who contribute a non-perishable donation for Second Harvest Food Bank will be rewarded with a spin of OCTA’s prize wheel. After the OCTA kickoff, the Metrolink train leaves Irvine at 9:53 a.m. for a short trip down to San Juan Capistrano and the Greek Festival.
A free shuttle will take riders from the station to the festival. But OCTA’s contribution doesn’t end there. Riders who show their Metrolink ticket at the festival will also get a free Greek pastry. Click here to learn more.
