Lisa frequently uses Metrolink to get to her job at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. She also rides to a variety of fun Southern California destinations, including the Orange County Fair, the Hollywood Bowl and more. Why did you start taking Metrolink to work?
I come from New York, where riding public transportation is part of everyday life. Plus, Disneyland employees are offered great incentives to ride the bus or train to the park instead of driving alone. I work there part-time during the busy seasons and enjoy getting there on the train.
How has riding the train to work improved your commute?
It allows me to give my car a rest, save money, and have some extra time to relax. During my Metrolink trips, I do crossword puzzles, listen to music and watch videos on my tablet. It's also nice to enjoy the scenery.
What advice would you give to people who are interested in riding the train?
Ask your Human Resources Department if your company has any commuter assistance programs or a rideshare program. There may be incentives to take the bus or train, carpool, vanpool or bike. You can also network with co-workers and see who else rides the bus or train to work. They may have some helpful tips. The OCTA and Metrolink websites have lots of useful information like schedules. I always encourage others to consider using public transportation.
Do you use public transportation to go to other places, too?
This summer, I caught the OC Fair Express bus from the train station to enjoy time at the fair. It was great to get in for $3 with the special coupon that bus riders received. I've also taken the train to the beach and to Disneyland (for fun, not work)!
