Each year on St. Joseph’s Day, tiny swallows begin to arrive at San Juan Capistrano after winging hundreds of miles from Argentina. To celebrate these world-famous birds and the colorful history of the city, San Juan Capistrano rolls out the largest non-motorized parade in the nation and holds a street fair with more than 175 vendors.
This year, the 56th annual Swallows Day Parade and Mercado will be held Saturday, March 22. Other activities include live music, crafts, demonstrations and more. Routes 91 and 191 both serve the area, making the bus a great way to get there.
In-between the parade, street fair and other Swallows Day Festivities, take some time to explore Mission San Juan Capistrano and meet some animals at Zoomars Petting Zoo! Both offer discounts to bus riders.
OCTA is kicking off the celebration on Saturday, March 22 with a free event at 8:30 a.m. Take Routes 70 or 90 to the Tustin Station for live music by Headshine, free refreshments from Nothing Bundt Cakes and more. The first 50 people will also get a free round-trip train ticket to go to San Juan Capistrano.
