Revitalizing OCTA’s Wilderness Preserves, One Acorn at a Time

More than a dozen volunteers helped plant acorns at the Trabuco Rose Preserve last month as part of OCTA’s restoration efforts under the OC Go Environmental Mitigation Program.

OCTA has acquired more than 1,300 acres in Brea, Laguna Beach, Silverado Canyon and Trabuco Canyon as part of the program. In addition, a total of 12 restoration projects have resulted in 350 acres of restored open space. OCTA keeps these wilderness areas beautiful by permanently protecting the wildlife and native plant habitats.

On Nov. 20, in collaboration with the Sea & Sage Audubon Society, OCTA continued its restoration efforts at the Trabuco Rose Preserve, one of OCTA's seven permanently protected Wilderness Preserves. To help reestablish the oak trees and revitalize the natural habitat, the volunteer group installed 162 plantings with four acorns per planting, totaling 648 acorns.
