On Sept. 12, residents and business leaders attended a community open house for the upcoming Laguna Niguel to San Juan Capistrano Passing Siding Project. The meeting was hosted by OCTA and Metrolink to build awareness about the project.
The meeting, held at the San Juan Capistrano Library, provided attendees the opportunity to view timelines and information on the project, ask questions of the project team, and sign up to obtain more information.
This $30.8 million project is funded by OC Go (also known as Measure M), Orange County’s half-cent sales tax to fund transportation investments, and state and federal funds. Construction on the project is anticipated to begin in early 2019.
The project will add approximately 1.8 miles of passing siding railroad track adjacent to the existing mainline railroad track. The passing siding track will allow trains traveling in opposite directions to pass each other, reducing the amount of time trains spend waiting for opposing trains. Improvements along the corridor make passenger service safer, more reliable, and more efficient.
