A 55-hour closure of the Camino de Estrella on-ramp to southbound I-5 is scheduled to begin Friday, May 13, for paving activities necessary to proceed to the next stage of construction.
Work at the interchange is part of the $230 million I-5 South County Improvements Project that extends the carpool lanes from San Juan Capistrano to San Clemente.
Additional long-term ramp closures are anticipated throughout the next several months at the Camino de Estrella and Avenida Vista Hermosa interchanges. These closures will allow crews to demolish the existing pavement on the ramps and immediately repave them. Once completed, the reconfigured ramps will accommodate the new lanes being added on the I-5 freeway.
Motorists will be detoured around the May 13 closure via PCH/Camino las Ramblas and Avenida Vista Hermosa. For specific detour information, visit the detour section on our webpage.
The speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph in the project area. The reduced speed limit will be in effect through project completion and is being enforced by the California Highway Patrol. Please use caution while driving through the construction zone.
