Caltrans, in cooperation with OCTA, proposes to widen State Route 55 (SR-55) in both directions from just north of the Interstate 405 (I-405)/SR-55 Interchange to just south of the Interstate 5 (I-5)/SR-55 Interchange in the cities of Santa Ana, Tustin and Irvine.
Currently, this portion of the SR-55 freeway has five lanes in each direction, including the carpool lane, and serves approximately 295,000 motorists daily. The proposed improvements will allow residents, businesses and motorists to see enhancements to the SR-55 corridor that will increase capacity, improve traffic operations, and improve mobility and reduce congestion.
The project is in the environmental stage. The public review period for the project’s Draft Environmental Document and other project documents has been extended from Jan. 8 until Jan. 22, 2016.
The documents are available online and at several locations in the project area:
- Caltrans District 12 Office, 3347 Michelson Drive, Suite 100, Irvine, CA 92612-1692
- Orange County Transportation Authority, 550 South Main Street, Orange, CA 92868
