Wildfires ravage parts of Orange County almost annually. As the steward for seven open space properties, OCTA has established a conservation plan to help ensure that these 1300 acres, known collectively as the Preserves, are permanently protected so wildlife and plant species can thrive for generations.
Fire management is an essential part of this protection effort. Fire management plans provide guidelines for decision-making at all stages including fire prevention, pre-fire vegetation management, suppression activities, and post-fire responses that are compatible with conservation and stewardship responsibilities. In addition, specific maps highlight Preserve areas containing environmentally sensitive areas to avoid (when feasible) during fire suppression efforts. Local fire entities, including the Orange County Fire Authority, Brea Fire Department and the City of Laguna Beach Fire Department, as well as wildlife agencies, provided guidance on the fire management plans.

OCTA’s preservation efforts are managed through OC Go, a comprehensive transportation program funded by a local transportation half-cent sales tax that provides improvements for freeways, streets, streetcar and rail infrastructure, mobility services and the environment.
