To build awareness about the I-405 Project, the OCTA outreach team is sharing information with groups and businesses along the 16-mile project corridor from Los Alamitos to Costa Mesa.
At the Fountain Valley Senior Expo, more than 150 people stopped by the OCTA booth to ask questions and receive fact sheets and other project information. In Huntington Beach, OCTA met with the Huntington Beach Union High School District, which represents more than a dozen high schools within the project area, and the Huntington Beach Visitors Bureau.
Every point of contact represents an opportunity to explain the benefits of the I-405 Project, which will add one regular lane in each direction from Euclid Street to I-605 and make improvements to freeway entrances, exits and bridges. It will also construct the 405 Express Lanes, two lanes in each direction from SR-73 to I-605. The new express lanes incorporate the existing carpool lanes and connectors that opened in 2014.
Adding express lanes, in addition to the new regular lanes, benefits all people who use the I-405. Rush-hour commutes in the regular lanes on I-405 are expected to be reduced by almost 30 minutes versus building only one regular lane in each direction. Without paying a penny more, drivers can be home a half hour sooner.
