On April 18, the Southern California Regional Roadeo competition was hosted by Foothill Transit at their Arcadia location. This event is held every year to give local Roadeo teams a competitive practice before the national competition is held at the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Bus and Paratransit Conference, which will be held this year in Reno, Nevada the first weekend of May.
OCTA’s maintenance team, consisting of Ray Consiglio, Patrick Courchaine, and Christopher Jordan, and coach operator Darvy Traylor, took second place in the highly competitive event. Laboring under a tight time frame, maintenance teams diagnose mechanical issues, repair engines, and complete a bus inspection to find a variety of defects.
The coach operators drive a 40-foot bus through a skills course that simulates a variety of street conditions. They must complete the course within an allotted time avoiding cones and barrels along the way.
Congratulations to our OCTA team and best of luck in the APTA Roadeo!
