Therapy and service animals who are familiar with riding the bus increase the independence and confidence of their handlers. On Sat., Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. until noon, OCTA is offering trainers and handlers an opportunity to add the experience of riding an OCTA bus, including the sights and sounds of downtown Buena Park and Knott’s Berry Farm, into their training programs.
This annual program provides trainers with free and unlimited practice boarding, riding and alighting an OCTA transit bus, along with a special bus route designated for service animal training. The round trip from Fullerton Park-and-Ride departs every 20 minutes. Trainers are encouraged to ride multiple times to increase confidence and familiarity.
After completing the training day, participants can apply for the OCTA Bus Mobility Training Card. This no-fare photo ID lets holders ride OCTA’s fixed-route system for free while training a therapy or service animal.
