Improved fare collection procedures can help improve the speed and efficiency of public transportation. To reduce bus boarding time, decals with the message ‘Speed Your Ride’ were placed on the window adjacent to front bus doors to remind customers to have their pass or cash ready before getting on the bus. The large, highly visible message alerts those waiting in line to have those items in hand as they board.
Similar decals were placed on Bravo! ® buses when they were introduced last year and have proven successful in reminding customers to get ready. Since the decals were put in place, coach operators have seen an increase in customers who are prepared before reaching the farebox.
