During National Dump the Pump Week in June, people all over the country will jump aboard public transportation to help conserve resources, clean the air, and take cars off the road. For many, it will be the first time they’ve traded traveling alone in a car for a shared ride with other commuters.
Here in Orange County, OCTA is celebrating Dump the Pump Week in two different ways – by thanking those who already do it and by encouraging new people to try it.
Loyal OCTA bus riders who share their story and a picture taken on the bus, at a bus stop or at a destination will be entered into a weekly drawing for a 30-day bus pass. Their stories will encourage others to dump the pump.
Next, OCTA will reach out to potential riders to showcase the ease and convenience of talking public transportation to many destinations throughout Orange County. Those who send in a photo of themselves riding the bus will be eligible to win a prize. National Dump the Pump Day has been celebrated for 10 years and has helped raise awareness of the benefits of using public transportation. According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), last year Americans took 10.8 billion trips on public transportation, the highest number in 58 years.
