For the 12th year in a row, OCTA will offer free bus rides on New Year’s Eve to promote safe travel. Passengers can ride free from 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 until 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 on all fixed-route buses.
This seasonal service continues to grow in popularity. Last year, boardings increased 66 percent over the year before as travelers chose the bus as the safe alternative to driving their own vehicles on one of the year’s biggest nights of partying.
To make sure current and potential riders know about this service, the free ride event will be promoted with interior and exterior bus ads, social media and a 30-second public service announcement that will air on various Time Warner cable stations from Dec. 26 to Dec. 31.
Information on the OCTA website makes it simple to discover local New Year’s celebrations easily reached by bus. From dancing to dinner to concerts, there is an event for everyone who wants to have a great time ringing in the New Year while also traveling safely.
Recognizing that many riders on New Year’s Eve may be taking the bus for the first time, the website also includes information about OCTA’s online trip planner and general bus riding tips, such as arriving at the stop early and using exact change for trips outside the free ride time period.
