As part of its commitment to voters, OCTA collaborates with state and federal wildlife agencies to acquire land and fund habitat restoration projects to offset the environmental impacts of OC Go freeway projects.
Through the OC Go Environmental Mitigation Program, OCTA has acquired more than 1,300 acres in Brea, Laguna Beach, Silverado Canyon, and Trabuco Canyon. These properties are collectively named the Preserves. Docent-led hikes and equestrian rides are conducted throughout the year in selected areas.
Additionally, a total of 12 restoration projects have been funded throughout Orange County. Approximately $10 million has been allocated to restore about 350 acres of open space land.
Acquired properties will be permanently preserved as open space. Funded restoration projects restore preserved open space lands to their native habitat.
OCTA continues to manage these properties through the Natural Community Conservation Plan/Habitat Conservation Plan.
