Construction of OC’s first modern streetcar is on track with activities ranging from bridge work to utility relocation.
Foundation work is continuing on the new 350-foot long bridge across the Santa Ana River that OC Streetcar will traverse on its 4.15-mile route from the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (SARTC) to a transit hub at Harbor Boulevard and Westminster Avenue in Garden Grove. Completion of foundations, bridge piers, and abutments is anticipated by October. Once foundation work is complete for the Santa Ana River Bridge, crews will complete similar work for the bridge over Westminster Avenue.
In addition, crews are relocating eight private utilities and sewer, water, and storm drains.
OC Streetcar is designed to connect the heart of Orange County with regional transportation. The landmark project will serve Santa Ana’s historic and thriving downtown, which includes federal, state and local courthouses, government offices, colleges, an artists’ village and a thriving restaurant scene.
To keep residents informed, OCTA recently held two community open houses that attracted approximately 30 people.
