This year, OC Fair-goers showed a clear preference for something that wasn’t deep-fried or wrapped in bacon: The OC Fair Express.
During the five weeks from July 11 through Aug. 10, OCTA provided a total of 76,952 trips to and from the OC Fair -- a figure that represents a 31.1 percent increase compared to last year. For the second year in a row, the OC Fair Express set a ridership record.
New this year was a popular free OC Fair Express mobile app that allowed fairgoers to purchase bus passes and find routes, boarding locations and schedules using their smart phones. More than 4,700 fairgoers downloaded the app and 4,224 purchased mobile tickets.
OCTA and the OC Fair have partnered for four years in a row to provide this important transportation service made possible through funding from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC).
With eight bus stops and direct access to the fair, the OC Fair Express offered a convenient, cost-effective way for residents to leave their cars home and avoid traffic and parking fees.
