OCTA will launch a new contactless fare payment system in October to make riding OC Bus and the upcoming OC Streetcar easier, more affordable and more convenient.
The Wave fare payment system allows users to use a physical Wave card, Wave mobile account, or contactless card to pay as they go.
Wave card features include:
- Fare capping: Riders pay per trip until they reach the cost of a daily or monthly pass, ensuring they never pay more than needed.
- Free two-hour transfers: Riders will be able to switch buses within a two-hour window without having to pay additional fares.
- Balance protection: By registering a Wave card, riders can recover their balance if the card is lost or stolen.
The Wave card is part of OCTA’s efforts to modernize the rider experience by introducing a flexible, contactless fare media system.
Riders may also continue to pay with cash or use a contactless credit or debit card.
