To take the guesswork out of waiting for the bus, OCTA is providing bus location information to third-party mobile apps, creating better mobile experiences for OCTA’s customers. Bus riders can easily find real-time bus locations and predicted bus stop arrival times by downloading free, popular apps like Transit and Moovit. Both apps receive updated vehicle position information every couple of minutes from OCTA.
Real-time apps are pilot programs and riders are encouraged provide feedback to OCTA via an online survey and to report any issues to the respective developers. When in doubt, bus customers can verify scheduled bus information at octa.net. Both apps also provide regional transit service information, including LA Metro, Foothill Transit, Metrolink, and LADOT.
OCTA continually looks for ways to improve the ridership experience by harnessing the capabilities of digital technologies. In 2006, OCTA was one of the first transit agencies to participate in Google Transit, now ranked one of the most popular transit trip planners in the world. Then in 2009, OCTA launched Text4Next, a free service that delivers bus arrival times via text. Customers have relied on these popular services to plan trips with greater efficiency.
