As part of the October service change, OCTA will launch Route 57X, a limited-stop version of existing Route 57. The new route will operate weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at faster travel speeds, a particularly valuable benefit for longer-distance riders.
Bounded by the intersections of State College Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue in the north and Bristol Street and Sunflower Avenue in the south, the new express service will operate in the section of Route 57 that generates the highest rider demand. On an average weekday, Route 57 serves about 12,100 riders; approximately 65 percent, or nearly 7,900, board in the limited-stop section. By serving fewer stops, Route 57X will offer shorter travel times within the limited-stop area, which should be particularly appealing for those traveling longer distances.
Route 57X will begin at the Brea Mall or the Newport Transportation Center and will serve all stops between the Brea Mall and Orangethorpe and Sunflower and the Newport Transportation Center. It will serve only indicated stops between Orangethorpe and Sunflower.
New signage similar to that of Bravo!® will be provided to alert riders of this new alternative and to help them distinguish between the two routes.
During the first part of the month, OCTA Transit Ambassadors will be at select stops and onboard Route 57X buses to tell riders about this convenient new way to travel more quickly to familiar destinations. Learn more.
