New Dump the Pump Challenge Makes It Cool to Ride the Bus

Everything is better on the bus.

That’s the message of OCTA’s latest campaign to motivate new riders to jump on a safe, convenient OCTA bus and travel to amazing Orange County destinations.

To celebrate National Dump the Pump Week, OCTA is encouraging residents to take the Dump the Pump Challenge by leaving their cars at home and taking the bus. Special prizes such as bus adventure packages to cool places like Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm and shopping trips to some of OC’s best malls showcase some of OC’s most popular bus-friendly locations.

A fun video helps website visitors think of taking the bus in a whole new way after watching everyday-guy Dwayne Peterman become the most popular guy in town when he gives up his car and climbs aboard an OCTA bus.

This campaign joins an ongoing effort to thank current riders. Loyal OCTA bus riders who share their story and a picture taken on the bus, at a bus stop or at a destination will be entered into a weekly drawing for a 30-day bus pass. Their stories will encourage others to dump the pump.

National Dump the Pump Day has been celebrated for 10 years and has helped raise awareness of the benefits of using public transportation. According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), last year Americans took 10.8 billion trips on public transportation, the highest number in 58 years.
