OCTA continues to make progress on the OC Bridges program, with recent construction activities at projects at Lakeview and Raymond avenues.
Both require extensive work to construct bridges to separate car traffic from trains. These bridges will eliminate the need for commuters and commercial vehicles to stop, wait and waste time at railroad crossings.
Long before the closures and detours began, OCTA reached out to the community with meetings, mailings, signage, social media, and online information to keep people informed and minimize disruption.
North and southbound traffic on Lakeview Avenue in the project area is restricted; Lakeview will reopen in late 2016. All businesses in the area will remain open throughout construction. Postcards with detour information were sent to more than 7,000 addresses around the project area.
The detour route for the Lakeview closure is La Palma Avenue to Richfield Road to Buena Vista Avenue.
For the Raymond Avenue Undercrossing Project, Acacia Avenue, just north of Valencia Avenue, is closed until the end of March. To keep local residents in the loop, postcards were sent to more than 6,000 addresses in the project area.
The detour route for the Acacia Avenue closure is Orangethorpe Avenue to Raymond Avenue to Commonwealth Avenue.
Both detours were marked with portable changeable message signs for drivers and meetings took place with fire and police personnel to discuss access during the closures.
