At a celebration at the Asian Garden Mall last month, the Westminster community of Little Saigon joined OCTA in launching the 64Xpress limited-stop OC Bus service that offers a faster commute along popular Route 64, which runs between the Westminster Mall area in Huntington Beach and Larwin Square in Tustin.
OCTA Chair Lori Donchak, Directors Andrew Do and Greg Winterbottom, and CEO Darrell Johnson offered remarks along with Sergio Contreras, mayor pro tem of Westminster. Food for the festive celebration was provided by Seafood World in Westminster and Dos Chinos in Santa Ana.
Community and business leaders join OCTA in the heart of Little Saigon to dedicate the 64Xpress, a limited-stop route that provides faster service in Huntington Beach, Westminster, Santa Ana and Tustin.
The 64Xpress travels Bolsa Avenue and First Street, making 16 stops compared to the 48 provided by regular Route 64. Riders going longer distances can expect to save up to 19 minutes. Destinations include the Westminster Mall, Asian Garden Mall, Northgate Market and the Santa Ana Artists Village.
OCTA has a long history of service to the community, and many members turned out to greet the new, faster route. Some, like Trần Trúc Minh, have relied on OCTA buses for many years. On Little Saigon TV, Mrs. Tran shared her story with Chair Donchak about coming to the U.S. in the 1970s with her young family and using OCTA buses to go to markets, doctors’ visits, school and work. Mrs. Tran, who has several relatives who work for OCTA, expressed her gratitude to OCTA for her family’s better future and for the new 64X service that will help the Vietnamese-American community for years to come.
