SR-55 is a major route connecting Orange County to Riverside and San Bernardino counties that also provides access to key business centers, John Wayne Airport and the beach cities. To help improve commutes, the project will add one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction, as well as auxiliary or merge lanes. The $475.1 million project is funded by OC Go (also known as Measure M), state and federal funds. The California Transportation Commission (CTC) awarded OCTA $140 million in competitive state transportation funding to support the project.
