Work is expected to start this month on improvements to four miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The three-year, $475.1 million project will improve mobility and reduce congestion on the freeway, a vital link from central Orange County to the coast.
Crews are scheduled to demolish a portion of the first of four bridges on January 23 as part of the SR 55 Improvement Project. The concrete barrier on the east side of the freeway bridge over MacArthur Boulevard will be demolished over three nights, with crews working from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The demolition requires a full closure of MacArthur Boulevard under the freeway as well as the northbound and southbound loop on-ramps. The off-ramps and straight on-ramps will remain open. The two outside lanes on northbound SR-55 will be closed to allow crews to perform the work on the bridge. Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists around the closures.
The project’s closures and detours map provides additional information.
