Activities are ramping up for the SR-55 Improvement Project between I-405 and I-5, which is anticipated to begin construction in approximately one year. The project will improve mobility, reduce congestion and increase capacity along a 4-mile stretch of freeway through Tustin, Santa Ana and Irvine.
SR-55 is one of the most heavily congested freeways in Southern California, and traffic is only expected to increase with future demand as the economy recovers from the pandemic. SR-55 is a vital corridor connecting Orange County to Riverside and San Bernardino counties and is a major route for accessing key business centers, John Wayne Airport, major shopping destinations and the beach cities. The project will add one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction, as well as auxiliary lanes.
The $474 million project is funded by OC Go (also known as Measure M), state and federal funds.
OCTA will begin engaging businesses and residents in the coming months to inform them about the project and upcoming construction activities. Meanwhile, consider signing up for email alerts by visiting the project website, and follow the project on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
