The SR-91 Improvement Project, scheduled to break ground soon, will improve 5.6 miles of SR-91 through Anaheim, Fullerton, Orange, Yorba Linda and Placentia.
The project will improve mobility throughout the corridor, reduce weaving and merging between ramps, and improve on- and off-ramps, sidewalks and bike lanes at the Glassell Street, Tustin Avenue and Lakeview Avenue interchanges.
The project will be constructed in three segments:
- Segment 1 (SR-55 to Lakeview Avenue)
- Reconstruct Lakeview Avenue overcrossing to include standard lanes, shoulders and sidewalks in each direction
- Add new on-ramp from Lakeview connecting directly to southbound SR-55 to reduce weaving and merging at the westbound SR-91 and southbound SR-55 interchange
- Realign westbound SR-91 on-ramp at Lakeview interchange
- Separate westbound SR-91 and southbound SR-55 traffic
- Segment 2 (La Palma Avenue to SR-55)
- Add a new eastbound general-purpose lane
- Reconstruct Kramer Boulevard and Tustin Avenue overcrossing to include standard lanes, shoulder and sidewalks in each direction
- Segment 3 (Acacia Street to La Palma Avenue)
- Improve westbound SR-91 to northbound and southbound SR-57 connectors
- Add an auxiliary lane from SR-57 to Raymond Avenue/East Street off-ramp
- Add bypass ramp for northbound SR-57 Orangethorpe Avenue off-ramp prior to SR-91, eliminating the need to merge across multiple lanes at the interchange
The $790 million project is funded through a combination of federal, state and local sources, including OC Go and excess toll revenue from the 91 Express Lanes. OC Go, also known as Measure M, is Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements.
