I-405 Improvement Project Wins Three Awards

The I-405 Improvement Project was recently honored with three Excellence in Public Information and Communications (EPIC) awards from the California Association of Public Information Officials, also known as CAPIO.

The annual EPIC awards recognize outstanding public agency information and communications programs. OCTA received the top honor with a perfect score for the 405 coloring book, aimed towards elementary school-age children to engage and educate them about construction safety. OCTA also received awards of distinction for the 405 groundbreaking event, which hosted more than 600 attendees in early 2018 to commemorate the start of construction, and the Waze/Interactive Map, a partnership, the first of its kind, linking construction closures and detours to the navigation app.

Communication is almost as critical as construction on the I-405 Improvement Project, which spans six cities and will replace and widen 18 bridges to deliver a  general-purpose lane and a tolled Express Lane facility in each direction along its 16 miles. This is OCTA’s largest project and will affect the lives of millions of people during and after construction.
