Free Bus Rides on Feb. 4 to Honor Rosa Parks’ Birthday

On February 4, OCTA will honor civil rights icon Rosa Parks, whose quiet act of courage in refusing to give up her bus seat helped spark a movement that changed public transportation and expanded fair access for millions of people.

OCTA will join transportation agencies nationwide in offering free rides to customers on the birthday of Rosa Parks to commemorate her historic efforts, which ultimately led to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling declaring segregation on public transit unconstitutional.

Rides on OC Bus will be free on on February 4, 2026. Those with a Wave card or the Wave mobile app should tap or scan but will not be charged during the free-ride period.

OCTA offers several programs to help people ride OC Bus affordably. In 2022, OCTA became the first large transit agency in the region to offer free bus rides to all youth ages 6 to 18 on an ongoing basis through the Youth Ride Free program. In addition, OCTA’s Community College Pass program provides OC Bus rides to thousands of community college students attending the nine community colleges in Orange County.
