Free Admission to Mission This Saturday! Go Metrolink!

As part of a celebration marking Orange County's 125th birthday, Mission San Juan Capistrano is offering free general admission to Orange County residents on Saturday, Sept. 13, a savings of up to $9 per person. Visitors must show proof of residency.

Saturday is the perfect day to take advantage of the Metrolink Weekend Day Pass, which offers unlimited rides wherever Metrolink travels all day either Saturday or Sunday for only $10. The mission is a short walk from the train station as are many excellent restaurants and fun activities for the whole family. Many locations offer discounts to Metrolink  riders.

Taking the train is the most convenient way to travel to San Juan Capistrano, since there are closures and detours necessary in the area for the Ortega Highway Project. Once completed, the project will improve local traffic flow, enhance safety and relieve traffic congestion.

In addition, the mission is seeking 1,000 volunteers to hold hands around the 11-acre perimeter of the grounds as part of Hands Around the Mission. Those interested in setting the record of the largest hug around the mission and being a part of history can sign up here.

Participants are asked to show up at their designated spots at 10 a.m. Hands will be joined at 10:45 a.m. and held for 10 minutes to set the record, which will be documented via aerial photography. All participants will receive an official certificate of participation.

Orange County's birthday will be celebrated throughout the city with wagon rides, folklorico dancers, historic tours, concerts, a scavenger hunt, mariachis, melodramatic production, and more.
