During National Bike Month in May, OCTA encouraged people who live and work in Orange County to Start a Chain Reaction and try bicycling. We asked people to take the pledge to ride and leave their cars at home. Whether you ride for fun, to get to school, work or anywhere else, we wanted people to experience their communities by bike. The result? More than 80,000 combined miles, or enough to go around the world three times. Everyone who pledged was entered to win a free bicycle from Jax Bicycle Center and other great Bike Month prizes. Winners will be announced soon, so be sure to check OCbikemonth.com.
Bike Month has come and gone, but summer is here, which means it’s the best time of year for bicycling. There are over 1,000 miles of paved, off-street bikeways in Orange County. Plan your route ahead of time, or just grab your bike and go. Either way, you’ll want OCTA’s new bikeways guide. The guide shows all of the bikeways in OC, along with bike shop locations, connections to transit and helpful tips to stay safe. Request a bikeways guide here, or email us at bike@octa.net.
According to a list from the League of American Bicyclists, in two short years California has pulled ahead 11 places and is now ranked the eighth most bicycle-friendly state in the United States. Thanks for being part of that accomplishment. Let’s keep it moving!
