CEO Talks Transportation at WTS

At the annual Women’s Transportation Seminar–Orange County (WTS-OC) luncheon on June 18, OCTA CEO Darrell E. Johnson provided key updates on OCTA’s priorities and progress. He shared highlights from OCTA’s newly adopted $1.74 billion fiscal year 2025-26 budget, which focuses on expanding transit services – including increased OC Bus routes and the launch of the OC Streetcar – advancing zero-emission initiatives and fulfilling Measure M commitments through continued investment in major projects and local programs.

Johnson also discussed the ongoing 10-year review of Measure M, a vital accountability process required by the ordinance to evaluate delivery performance, assess financial health, address implementation challenges, and gather public input. The review ensures the program remains transparent, adaptable, and aligned with long-term goals. Measure M is Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements and funds freeway, street, transit, and environmental projects.

Attendees also received an update on the OC Streetcar, which recently hit a major milestone with the arrival of its first vehicles. The streetcar will travel a four-mile route through Santa Ana and Garden Grove, connecting key transit hubs and dense neighborhoods. Testing begins this summer, with passenger service expected in spring 2026.

Looking ahead, Johnson addressed OCTA’s early preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games, noting Orange County’s role as host of surfing and volleyball events. With millions of visitors expected, OCTA is planning service enhancements and partnering with LA Metro to potentially support expanded transit during the Games. The luncheon underscored OCTA’s ongoing commitment to sustainable, forward-thinking transportation that supports all Orange County residents and visitors.
