To get Orange County residents pumped up about active transportation, OCTA is sponsoring a series of events that celebrate cycling during national Bike Month.
Bike Month was established nearly 60 years ago to showcase the benefits of bicycling and to encourage more people to try it. Those who pledge online to participate in Bike Month in May will be entered for a chance to win a free bike.
On May 7 at 7:30 a.m., local elected officials, OCTA Board members and staff will meet at the Orange Metrolink Station. From there, they will bike three miles through Old Towne Orange, along the Santiago Creek Trail and end at OCTA headquarters on Main Street.
The event serves as a preview for Bike to Work Week, which is May 11-15. Catch a free ride on Metrolink on Bike to Work Day, May 14, if you have a bike and/or bike helmet. It’s a great day to practice riding your bike for the first or last part of your commute.
On May 30, explore the newly opened Jeffrey Open Space Trail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cypress Community Park in Irvine. Join a group ride, learn about bicycle safety and participate in other family-friendly activities like a children’s helmet giveaway and decorating station.
