In a recent campaign, OCTA reached out to pedestrians, cyclists and motorists to raise awareness about rail safety. Last year, more than 770 people were killed or injured in the United States from walking, cycling or playing on railroad tracks. Through public service announcements, onboard bus advertisements, posters, press releases, and online and social media, OCTA is working to help prevent future incidents.
Trains are part of life in Orange County. To keep Orange County rail safe, OCTA has launched a variety of programs, such as enhancing 52 railroad crossings with upgraded and updated equipment and signage and helping silence train horns for local communities. In addition, the O.C. Bridges Program increases rail safety by separating freight train from vehicular traffic.
The need for rail safety education is ongoing. The OCTA website includes important safety tips for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
