American Trails, a nonprofit that champions hiking, bicycling, mountain biking, horseback riding, water trails, and other trail-related activities, is sponsoring a contest for photographs of designated National Recreation Trails (NRT). The contest provides awards in several categories and shows off entries (and previous winners) on the NRT website. The deadline for entries is December 15, 2016.
Orange County has three NRT trails, including the Aliso Creek Trail, the Mountains to Sea Trail (Peters Canyon Bikeway/Trail and Back Bay Loop Trail), and the Santa Ana River Trail.
Walking or biking these trails is a great way to get out and enjoy Orange County, and the contest provides an extra incentive. Orange County is a bicycle-friendly community with more than 1,000 miles of bikeways. Find out more about OCTA’s efforts to increase active transportation in Orange County here.
