To help keep Orange County’s cyclists and pedestrians safer, OCTA rolled out an integrated educational campaign last week based on the simple message, “Bike Smart. Bike Safe.”
The campaign combines a television public service announcement, interactive website, posters, brochures, a pledge opportunity, prizes, giveaways, and online education to help create a safety culture within the diverse Orange County community. Different versions were created for children and adults and for cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists who share the road with them. Posters are available in English and Spanish, and each of the six brochures is available in five languages.
All the materials contain a strong call to action directing viewers to information at BeBikeSmart.com, an interactive website that OCTA created to reinforce bike safety among adult and youth cyclists and motorists. The website gives visitors the opportunity to check their Bike Safety IQ and enter to win cool bike safety gear or a road bike. At the site, they can also receive a $25 coupon from JAX Bicycle Shop in exchange for pledging to ride during May, which is.
To build awareness of bike safety throughout Orange County, the 30-second PSA featuring a father and daughter riding together will air on many regional cable television channels.
